Caradale Primary impresses in schools’ soccer and rugby competitions

Caradale Primary School’s under-12 and under-13 boys’ sides won the annual Curro Century City 5-a-side primary schools soccer tournament, at the weekend. The under-13s won back-to back titles in 2022 and 2023 as well as in 2019, just before the Covid-19 pandemic brought all sporting activities to a standstill.

The school has been taking part in the tournament since 2018 and had three teams make it to the finals against Pinelands North Primary School. Caradale’s under-11s lost 1-0, the under 12s and 13s winning their respective matches 2-1 and 3-1.

Caradale’s soccer squads are not the only ones impressing on the pitch as its girls’ under-14 rugby team were crowned winners of the inaugural Mitchell’s Plain Schools Rugby League, beating hosts Cornflower Primary 15-10, in Lentegeur, last Wednesday. Captain Uminathi Mcokumbana, 13, a Grade 7 pupil, scored a last-minute match-winning try to help her side secure victory.
