West End Primary School principal Clive Arries is the new President of the Progressive Principals’ Association (PPA).
To mark this achievement, West End Primary School staff and school governing body members threw a surprise celebration for Mr Arries on Wednesday November 21.
The PPA was established by principals to support one another.
“It’s a privilege to (have served) the PPA for four years. I’ve always reflected on whether I can walk in the leaders’ footsteps before me. I’ve been moulded by my peers and colleagues,” said Mr Arries.
“When I was elected, I knew what was expected of me, I know I have a big responsibility. Bringing everyone together will be a challenge I am willing to take on.”
He said he wants to build a culture of leadership, learning from failure and becoming successful.
“I am humbled by this. I will never get tired,” he said.
Wishing Mr Arries well, Grade 5 Head of Department Andries Melite said the best was yet to come, while Grade 7 teacher Ameen Saferdien added: “May you enjoy everything with your new position and exceed to higher heights with everything you do and good luck.”
Bassier Noordien, the Grade 6 Head of Department, said: “We are truly proud of him. He should take what he has forward. What he did at our school, he should also use those skills in his new position. He will look after our community. Good luck.”
