Thousands of pupils, who will be in Grade 8 next year, wrote entry exams for focus schools last week. At Mondale High School in Portland – a maths, science and technology (MST)Â focus school – 1 849 pupils queued in the rain on Thursday April 4 to write maths and language entry tests. Western Cape Education department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said there are subject-specific requirements for focus schools, so they are allowed to test for certain competencies. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the 2020 applications before the end of this term.
