Strandfontein Diabetic Support Group went back in time to their school days at their end-of-year brunch. Dressed in school uniform, they paid tribute to volunteers and supporters who helped them keep members healthy during 2016, at their usual meeting place in Cruiser Street, on Thursday December 1. The group meets on every last Thursday of the month to weigh themselves, distribute literature, and do blood pressure and blood sugar level testing. This is their seventh anniversary and they have spread their help to other areas, including Bay View, Pelican Park and Strandfontein Village. Volunteers include former nurses and first aiders who do the testing and refer members to doctors. The group encourage members to exercise regularly and eat healthily. Group facilitator Veronica Vember said they hope to do some planting next year to better educate volunteers.
