The Mitchell’s Plain Cluster searched 44 houses for drugs last week.
They arrested 197 people and confiscated 93 grams of heroin, 186 grams of tik, 442.5 mandrax tablets and 868 grams of dagga.
Three illegal and unlicensed firearms were also confiscated and four men, aged between 19 and 34, were arrested.
Thirty people were arrested in domestic violence-related cases while 26 wanted suspects were arrested in four tracing operations.
Police also searched 10 shebeens and 15 second-hand goods dealers and visited spaza shops mostly owned by foreign nationals to ensure safety and prevent business robberies and xenophobic attacks.
Other suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from house breaking and theft, to theft of motor vehicles, possession of stolen property, robberies, drunken driving, murder, possession of dangerous weapon and traffic violation.
The Mitchell’s Plain deputy cluster commander Brigadier Mmagauta Letsoale said police would continue clamping down on crime and criminal activities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The police will maintain a zero tolerance approach in preventing crime,” said Brigadier Letsoale.
Two men were shot dead as fourth-year Mitchell’s Plain School of Skills pupils were arriving at their farewell ball at Barron’s Estate on Saturday December 8.
A driver and his passenger had just dropped a pupil at the dance, when they were killed during a drive-by shooting in Knole Road, Philippi.
Bronagh Casey, spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), said no pupils or staff were injured but they were “extremely traumitised”.
She said the owners of the venue doubled security immediately and the police were on the scene within minutes of the shooting.
Counselling and support have been made available.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said detectives were investigating all possibilities.“The motive is subject of the police’s investigation,” said Mr Van Wyk.
One of the men lived in Beacon Valley, where the house in Peugeot Street was searched on several occasions by police for drugs.
