A Beacon Valley woman is hosting her fashion show to celebrate the community as well as the first anniversary of her magazines.
The Woman Up and Man up magazines have been in existence for one year, said CEO Robin-Lee Johnson, 28.
The fashion show is set to celebrate her magazine’s first anniversary as well as the people in the community and the work they do in the community.
“Those part of the fashion show will showcase their natural beauty and authenticity. This may allow for opportunities to reach the models, to either further their modelling or connect with other creatives. We continue to uplift, inspire and empower. I’ve been sharing with them that it is okay to dream, to have a vision and go for what they want,” she said.
“I lost vision, purpose and I just completely went on pause. I asked God for a new vision and it’s been a year since the release of my magazines. There wasn’t a computer. I used a cracked phone for my magazines. Covid-19 also affected the process of creating and making this all possible,” she said.
In her magazines, Ms Johnson features people in the community as well as local celebrities who managed to beat the odds to reach success.
“The fashion show will empower those attending. It’s never too late to start a movement, that NGO, that project and to know that in order to change the world, you need to change yourself and everything else will go accordingly,” said Ms Johnson.
One of the models, Earl Bevan George, said he was humbled by the opportunity to unite with likeminded individuals to make a dream work.
“I’m honestly looking forward to showcase my creativity yet the ultimate goal is to serve the vision and to help push the next person to become the best they can be,” he said.
Model Galiema Miller said she was excited to be a part of the show. “I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone’s desire for change collaborates. All of these people are strong and independent and I’d love to see how they present that.”
The Woman Up magazine fashion show will be taking place on Friday December 9 at Utopia Lounge, Ottery and doors open at 4.30pm. To book tickets WhatsApp them on 084 238 9709
