Kiara- Lee, 6, and family members proved that one is never too young or too old to start learning how to surf. The family, from Beacon Valley, was among a number of wannabe surfers who attended the launch of the Nine Miles Project’s Surf School, at Strandfontein Beach, on Saturday.
Established in 2013 and based at Strandfontein Pavilion, the project provides mentorship and support to youth from the nearby Sewende Laan informal settlement, Elands Bay and St Francis Bay.
Also pictured are, from left, Josh Jordaan, 14, a Grade 8 pupil at Mitchell’s Plain High School, his mother Lavona and eldest brother Vaughan, a second-year boiler-making student at Westlake College.
