It was dark outside, the vast sky had changed colour, and extraordinary twinkling balls , which are referred to as stars, had aligned.
I stood in the middle of the meadow. The wind echoed from behind; my legs could feel the softness of its touch.
I felt such a heavy hot wind on my back, trying to pass through me, but I didn’t surrender.
“Hello there what are you doing here at this time of the night?” a sudden voice said. I had no idea where to look. I felt so frightened, I couldn’t dare run away.
“I’m talking to you, what are you doing here?” the voice said again. This time it sounded a bit friendly.
I turned my back to find a tall boy with such perfect looking eyes. His face was a pale white colour. I couldn’t see him clearly, the darkness was blocking my view.
“Who are you?” I said to him and he downcasted his face and I said: “My name is Melody Uhm nice to know you but it’s getting late and I have to go home now.”
I hurried back home, clinging to my confused mind. Where did he come from? Where was he going? Does he even know me? These were all the questions haunting me.
The following morning, the sun was bright and the clouds were clean. I stared out of the window and the grass was covered with dew.
I had been thinking about my acquaintance from last night. He sounded very kind and sweet.
“Jasper” I said in a lowered tone.
Each time I got bored, I had a tendency of going to the meadow and just burst out in thought. I went to the meadow and on my way there I saw children on the streets wearing rags. To my surprise, I didn’t see myself mocking them; I just went past.
When I get there, the grass was wet and slippery, it had looked like someone was there watering it all night.
I stood there and watched the birds flying freely without any hesitation, the sky had been still eternally.
A few hours later the sun had set to a hideous colour. The sweet voice appeared again. “Melody?” I looked back and saw him, Jasper.
“Hello, Jasper right?” I asked him and he said: “Yes” and smiled.
“Sorry about yesterday, I know I scared you but I couldn’t help feel your pain. I saw the way you looked at the sky, tell me what’s bothering you?”
I was complete confused and I stared deeply in his eyes. It was getting darker and he grabbed my arm and held it tight.
“You still haven’t told me what’s the matter with you Melody talk to me,” he said and reached for my face.
“I don’t know who you are,” I said with my face looking at the sky.
“Exactly, and what does that mean?” he smiled eventually.
It felt like he knew what I was thinking. “I don’t know Jasper somehow I can’t help feel that we’re alike in some way,” I said.
He looked at me and I looked back at him. “Melody, what’s bothering you?” and this time he was determined.
“Okay, since you’re not giving up Jasper, I’m a lonely girl and I have a lot of issues that I need to sort out, but I don’t know how to do it. You’re the first person to be concerned about my life,” I cried.
Jasper pulled me closer and held me tight in his arms. I saw my tears dripping on his arm, drying up.
“Melody, you don’t know yourself, you are not lonely, that’s only what you think I’m here for you,” he added.
“Come on Jasper, don’t fool me, you only come when you feel like coming!”
I looked up and saw stars and the full moon.
“I’ve been seeking answers but nothing”, then I felt safe in his arms, I got carried away.
On my way home it was like someone was following me, then he came and invaded my mind again. There was something about him, but what was it? Why does he only come when it’s dark? Am I falling for him? Does he even love me?
Days passed. Jasper and I were like true lovers but only at night. I could only see him at night, but I didn’t complain.
“Melody, I want to tell you something!” he shrunk. ‘I am from the previous life; but believe that I am you in this life. I came in your world because I wanted you to love me, which is yourself Melody. Let go of your demons. My destination is with you. I am another form of you, but just in a different life and gender. I love you so much, all you have to do is love yourself.”
Since that night, Jas-
per had never been seen again. I truly had the most remarkable mo-
ments with him but now the question was, had fate led him to me?
I started to love my-
self more and I saw my-
self in my own world. I believed that Jasper had changed my life. After all I didn’t see “the dark” as a hideous and ghastly colour, in fact I enjoyed watching the sunset again.
All my confusions were abducted by the scent of Jasper’s perfume
