Two men arrested, car recovered in Mandalay

Two men were arrested just minutes after a hijacking in Hermes Way, Mandalay, on Saturday April 1 in the late afternoon.

At around 4.07pm, members of Lentegeur police station’s visible policing unit spotted the white Toyota Corolla on the corners of Goven Mbeki and Swartklip roads.

Warrant officer Wynita Kleinsmith, spokeswoman for Lentegeur police, said when the men, both aged 23, spotted the marked police car, they jumped out of the Toyota Corolla and tried to flee but were caught by police and arrested.

When police searched the car they found a fake gun, three cellphones and four halves and five quarters of mandrax tablets, wrapped in foil.

The men appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on robbery and drug possession charges.
