Two men were gunned down within hours of each other in Mitchell’s Plain on Saturday in what police have confirmed were gang-related shootings.
A 35-year-old man died from a gunshot wound to the chest in Slangolie Street, Tafelsig, on Saturday January 12, at 10.54am, according to Mitchell’s Plain police station spokesman Captain Ian Williams.
Police recovered five shell casings and a bullet at the scene and arrested two men, aged 30 and 32.

Several hours later, at 2.30pm, a second gang-related shooting claimed the life of a 46-year-old man in Peugeot Street, Beacon Valley.
The Anti-Gang Unit is investigating.
Police recovered 29 shell casings and two bullets on the scene.
Police arrested a 23-year-old man on a weapons charge and recovered a loaded Llama 7.65mm pistol (with serial number 713392) in Beacon Valley on Monday.
Officers spotted two men walking in Korfbal Street, and one of the men threw something into a yard – it was a gun with seven bullets in the clip, according to Mitchell’s Plain station commander Brigadier Cass Goolam.

About seven hours later, police searching a house in Platteklip Street, Tafelsig, found 51 whole mandrax tablets and a arrested a 29-year-old man on drugs charges.
Police acting on a tip-off arrested a 44-year-old woman on drugs charges on Friday January 11 in Arsenal Street and seized 51 small packets of tik, which, according to Mitchell’s Plain police spokesman Sergeant Jerome Voegt, had been flushed down the toilet.
