Police searched a man in Leeukop Street, Tafelsig, when they spotted him running from them on Sunday September 15 at 11.40pm.
When they caught him, they found a Norinco 9mm pistol, with its serial number filed off and a magazine containing five 9mm live rounds in his possession.
Police arrested the man, 23, on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He appeared in court on Monday September 16.
On Saturday September 14 at 12.45am police arrested a man, 26, in Fernwood Street, Eastridge, after they searched him and found an imitation firearm underneath his T-shirt. He appeared in court on Monday September 16.
On the same day, at 8.10am, police searched a man, 39, in Calypso Square,Town Centre, Eastridge and found 250 units of heroin in his possession. He was arrested and appeared in court on Monday September 16 on charges of drug dealing.
On the same day, at 10am, police searched a house in Korhaan Street, Rocklands and found 54 whole mandrax tablets and four half mandrax tablets on the side of a cupboard. Police arrested a man, 36, who faces a charge of possession of drugs.
He appeared in court on Monday September 16.
On the same day, at 11.50pm, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS’ designated liquor officers searched a house in Hengelaar Street, Beacon Valley, where they found about 32 litres of liquor in a chest freezer.
Police arrested a man, 59, who was expected to appear in court on Monday September 16 on charges of selling liquor without a licence. On the same day, at 11.50pm, police confiscated 18.5 litres of liquor at a house in Ironwood Street in Eastridge. A 59-year-old man was arrested.
Mitchell’s Plain police arrested a man, 56, when they found 45 mandrax tablets, 90 heroin straws and 37 stoppe dagga at a house in Singer Street, Beacon Valley around 11pm, on Friday September 13.
He appeared in court on Monday September 16. A few days before, on Tuesday September 10, police had searched another premises in Beacon Valley – in Rambler Street – and found 10 mandrax tablets and 20 dagga “stoppe”. Police arrested a man, 23, who faces a charge of possession of drugs and appeared in court on Thursday September 12.
On the same day, Mitchell’s Plain police found 60 mandrax tablets, four 45 calibre live round ammunition and eight rounds of 22 calibre
live ammunition at a house in Korfbal Street, Beacon Valley, and arrested a man, 40.
He faces a charge of possession of drugs and ammunition and appeared in court on Wednesday September 11.
A Westridge church was found burgled yesterday, Tuesday September 17.
Caretaker Isaac Dirks of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, on the corner of Cedar and Park avenues, said neighbours had heard footsteps in the church grounds early on Monday September 16. All of their outside floodlights were stolen and electrical wires were ripped out of the wall’s piping.“We would like to advise all other churches in the area to be alert as this seems to be a common trend,” he said.
