Rafiek Frantz, Westridge
It’s one o’clock in the morning and
I’m supposed to be snoring
But I’m tossing and turning –
wondering what it’ll take, so eventually I sit up straight
and to bide my time,
decide to compose some rhyme
Yet, it is hard to focus, cos
right outside my window
the mating felines were already in chorus!
In the still of the night
I lash out with might
As they scuttle away in a direction
I continue with retrospection
The core of these lyrics
Wasn’t from the Stylistics
As there simply was no debate
that this disease was about to dictate!
You couldn’t see it anywhere
Yet it was in the atmosphere
Covid-19
It was the worst you’ve ever seen!
It was born in Wuhan
not too far from Jackie Chan
Floating from man to man
to every corner of the land
Covid-19
It was the worst you’ve ever seen!
Suddenly it made sense
The world needed to cleanse
Cos its sweeping destruction
was simply immense!
Covid-19
The worst you’ve ever seen!
Banned was the smokes – thus
frustrating the folks
Some thought they could choose
But noooo! So too was the booze
Covid-19
The worst you’ve ever seen!
Lockdown meant a shutdown
not to be frowned upon
And if you’d care, then a mask you’ll wear
This virus is no joke, cos it could make you choke
Covid-19
The worst you’ve ever seen!
This global pandemic
saw everyone in a panic
Leading to never-ending queues
to stockpile for domestic use
Covid-19
The worst you’ve ever seen!
It didn’t take long to realise
new word on the block was “sanitise”
And to flatten the curve,
you just had to stay on your turf
Covid-19
The worst you’ve ever seen!
