Arthur Pillay, Westridge
It’s a crying shame that there is a housing shortage in the Western Cape.
Young married couples are looking for homes, senior citizens are seeking accommodation.
The government has to step in, as most of the senior citizen accommodation is either privately owned or part of Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA).
If you don’t have another income, besides your South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) pay-out you are doomed for life.
There are senior citizens who are in a most fortunate position – the wise ones who have policies or saved for a rainy day.
The rest that could not save nor afford policies, are the most unfortunate ones, whose children and or grandchildren are totally dependent on them.
My recommendation is to have a seniors’ accommodation in every township.
Department of Social Development, please step up your game.
