Hundreds of Mitchell’s Plain youth were given the chance to link up with 1 000 learning and employment opportunities at an event organised at the Rocklands civic centre on Wednesday October 30.
At an information session held in Beacon Valley earlier this year, then Minister of Higher Education and Training, Naledi Pandor had challenged Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) and businesses to service the many potential students, and make available learnerships and bursaries (“R386 million for ’Plain”, Plainsman, April 10).
Community facilitator Nuraan Muller said they were doing good on Ms Pandor’s promise.
Representatives from the Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSETA), Fibre Processing and Manufacturing (FP&M), Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA), TVET Colleges and a few businesses interacted with youth on bursaries, work placement, learnerships and co-operatives.
”The same youth who were at the April information session were invited to today’s programme to connect them with actual opportunities,” she said.
ANC proportional representative (PR) councillor Ernest Theron said this was a follow-up programme organised to link the youth with different opportunities.
