While most schools were quiet over the school holidays, the Cape Academy of Maths and Science in Constantia was a hive of activity from Sunday July 3 to Friday July 8, as 180 of the province’s top matric pupils from disadvantaged communities received additional support in mathematics, communication, science, accounting, career guidance and life skills at this year’s Western Cape Thuthuka Camp, an initiative run by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in partnership with the Western Cape Education Deparment. At the camp’s award ceremony, four pupils were honoured as the province’s brightest maths and accounting pupils. Toshinga Dzrume and Jianni Williams from Mondale High School were among the pupils who were recognised for their achievements. Toshinga received 97 percent in accounting, and Jianni, 97 percent for mathematics.
