In the past year, the Lions Club of Mitchell’s Plain has served 24 000 members in the community with 291 service projects.
They were chartered on October 6, 2017 with 49 members. They currently have 15 members with their newest member having been inducted on Saturday September 10.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic started, their club was mainly involved with hunger, diabetes awareness and testing projects.
Since then, they have been concentrating on alleviating hunger in the communities. One of their signature projects is still to provide baby boxes to moms at the Mitchell’s Plain Midwife Obstetrics Unit. These boxes include items for the baby and the mom.
“Our five-year anniversary is really a big milestone for us as a Lions Club and we could not do it without the assistance of our sponsors, the community and our fellow Lions. We will be having a day of fellowship with our fellow Lions clubs throughout Cape Town to celebrate our anniversary at Wynberg Park on Saturday October 8,” said Bevil Lakay, Lions Club member.
