Twenty community workers took part in a workshop which aimed to address domestic violence at the Lentegeur council chambers on Friday November 21.
It included women who are active in the health, victim support, domestic violence, youth and poverty alleviation sectors in Mitchell’s Plain.
The workshop included an overview of the City’s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Directorate processes and included topics such as understanding gender, the circle of violence, anger management, assertiveness, working with men, communication skills and stress management.
Ward 76 councillor Goawa Timm said the community workers who have received training are now better equipped to deal with disputes within the community.
“They are in a position where they are able to support the entire community on issues that have a negative impact on them, through sharing their current knowledge on the skills they have learnt.
They are also the ambassadors for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign,” she said.
