■ Retired Bafana Bafana defender David Kannemeyer who is part of the technical team of The Magic FC, is calling on Capetonians to support Strandfontein AFC player Kim Overberg, 16, pictured, from Bayview, who is part of a national women’s soccer team taking part in the Dallas International Girls Cup in Dallas, Texas, from March 28 to April 1. Kim and two other Mitchell’s Plain soccer players, Jodi-Lee Matthews, 13, also from Strandfontein AFC and Zoe Hendricks, 16, who plays for Westridge FC, have been chosen to represent the country in the youth soccer tournament. However, before they can fly the flag high for South Africa, they still need to raise much-needed funds and David, who has played for Cape Town Spurs, Ajax Cape Town, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United and Mpumalanga Black Aces, has called on readers to make sure the girls realise their dream of showcasing their skills on the international arena. If you can help, call Kim’s father Pedro on 084 084 9256, to help Jodi-Lee, call Sandra on 074 324 9420 and to support Zoe, call her mother Karin on 072 994 8803. Kim’s next fund-raiser is a karaoke and cooler box party this Friday February 2 at Strandfontein High School, at 7pm. Entry is R30 for the karaoke and R30 for your cooler box and boerewors rolls will be on sale at R15.
