The council came around to us last year and we filled in forms for the electricity pre-paid boxes for the Wendy houses in backyards.
We would love to know if they have implemented.
If so, which areas have they started in?
Eddie Andrews, mayoral committee member for Area South, replies
We are aware that a number of surveys have been done to consider where the next phase of pre-paid meters should be rolled out.
However, we can confirm that the City of Cape Town’s electricity department has not been involved in any surveys in the Mitchell’s Plain area.
Our focus thus far has been on municipal-owned properties in Factreton, Hanover Park, Parkwood, Newfields and Phase 1 of Bonteheuwel.
Currently the extension of municipal services to backyarders is a transversal project involving all City services.
We advise that the customer follows the normal application route should they want to have an additional prepaid meter installed.
