Igdienshirathal Mustaqeem Islamic Training and Development Centre (IMITD Centre) was registered as a non-profit organisation with the Department of Social Development on September 12 last year.
The organisation, started by a group of volunteers, who attended weekly dhikr (prayer meetings), was launched on the field, bordered by Van Rhyn Crescent in Tafelsig, across from the home of chairman Rafieq Larnie.
Mr Larnie said they had offices in Rocklands and at his house, where residents could go for financial support and skills development.
It is their vision to create a better society through focusing on religion, education and welfare.
“Some of our focus projects will be feeding and food parcel schemes; home-based gardening; religious excursions; to loan medical equipment like wheelchairs, crutches and assist with medical supplies like adult diapers and bandages.
“To go on regular hikes and beach and area clean-up operations; and dhikr all over the Western Cape,” he said.
Mr Larnie also said they wanted to build partnerships with those who share the same values, aims and objectives.
Secretary Farouk Davids called on the community and businesses to support their organisation’s growth and fund raising efforts.“Your support in making our projects a success to the benefit of our people in disadvantaged communities will show an interest in children, the youth and the vulnerable groups of South African.
“We will also protect and advance those interests,” he said.
