Wilhelm Maree from Strandfontein celebrated his 80 birthday on Wednesday July 17.
Mr Maree turned 80 on Tuesday July 16.
He told the Plainsman his first name is German and his surname is French, but “I do not know how my parents got the combination for my name.”
Mr Maree worked for Wilson Bailey Homes Construction for many years.
“I was the favourite worker amongst the management team. Many of the workers could not go overseas but I could go. I visited my sister in Australia and the other sister in Canada,” he said.
His wife, Gwendoline Maree, 67, said Mr Maree loved working in the garden and on her nerves. She added that he was almost as handsome as he was 40 years ago.
