Mitchell’s Plain pupils took top honours at the Western Cape Education Department’s visual art exhibition in eight education districts. Kiera Horne, from West End Primary School, for the intermediate phase and representing Metro South, had her work displayed in a provincial exhibition at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art in Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town last month, which was a culmination of the mini-exhibits. This year’s theme was “Every picture tells a story”. The focus was on creating art that is based on stories, whether it was read in class or created by pupils. Community artist and teacher Mark Jeneker had a hand in supporting and promoting pupils from Portland Primary, Westville and Yellowwood primary schools.
