Woodlands resident Annsley Spies, who works for the City of Cape Town’s recreation and parks department and who is the district commissioner for Scouts SA’s Mitchell’s Plain District, is a firm believer in sustainable living and to keep recyclable waste from landfill. On World Environmental Health Day (September 26) Ms Spies, who runs various programmes for young people from Westridge civic centre with her team, taught them how to reuse and recycle things that they use every day, transforming it into jewellery and toys, to name a few. “I use waste to make my items so that people can understand they don’t need to buy anything when they can create it themselves,” said Ms Spies.
