The Kardow Street Committee held a bazaar with entertainment and food stalls in Tafelsig on Saturday July 16.
The committee is a formal structure under the Mitchell’s Plain Community Police Forum (CPF), under the leadership of president Ridewaan Adams and their chairman Igshaan Fredricks.
The committee aims to improve the conditions in their street using a developmental approach and has been hosting a number of community events with a specific focus on offering young people positive alternatives to the social ills plaguing the area.
There were jumping castles, DJs, face painting, health checks by a professional nurse who lives in the area, food stalls and a car wash.
Ashley Potts of the Mitchell’s Plain CPF said the structure supported the work of the committee and encouraged other streets to follow the example set by the Kardow Street Committee to ensure that residents stand together to encourage and grow positive interaction and activities to help detour the young impressionable minds and lives of young people and adults towards a proactive means of service delivery.
“We need to see more of this kind of activities and street committees rise up to improve the lifespace among the people who live in it. Let’s join hands and restore, rebuild, revive our streets and bring back the positive we believe is possible,” he said.
