Young people are being taught to live their lives holistically, through programmes focusing on the physical body, finances, emotions, relationships, spirituality, time management and purpose in life.
These concepts are based on The Pyramid of Mastery as advocated by life coach and business strategist Tony Robbins.
Co-Founder of non-profit company 3 Fold Life support, Donovan Witbooi, said they were creating a programme which aimed to address issues young people faced, in a holistic manner.
Working with Ward 81 councillor Ashley Potts, they meet with youth at the Dagbreek hall every Friday.
“It is important to help equip the young person in every aspect of life. We are creating awareness on being a well-rounded being. We know it may not be as easy as it seems but with time, effort, discipline and even practice, this can be achieved,” said Mr Witbooi.
During the programme, they’ve had talks by Tina Cupido from Cupido Consulting, who discussed habits and goal setting; RLabs presented a session on making smarter money moves; and on Friday September 30, social worker Candice Warner will present a session on self awareness.
“The needs of young people are more or less the same. Our aim is to positively impact the negative narrative surrounding young people as we believe all they need is guidance and direction as most of them are well versed and come from good homes”, Mr Witbooi said.
“God gets all the honour in our work here. We want to continue to recruit young people in leadership programmes even though it’s short term. These programmes help build their resume as our target is matric pupils,” he added.
Jordan Tobey, 19, from Woodlands, who attends the Friday sessions, said they had helped him. “This allowed me to put into practice what we are taught. This has really helped me think differently. It is amazing and cool. This is a great place to spend Fridays,” he said.
Luthando “Mr Gaps” Minnie, content creator at RLabs’ Gap X, which presented the money talk, said building a world of financial freedom and abundance was one of their goals.
“We’ve created digital tools and services to help people make smarter money moves. I shared with the group that we need to break the gap and break the cycle as the previous generation never got an opportunity to build wealth,” he said.
“We use the content to transform lives, build welfare and form multiple streams of income,” he said.
Project head, Althea De Wet said young people should take charge of their lives. “Whatever you are passionate about, do what is good. Find that thing that you love and work at it. Use money wisely and take care of yourself.”
Mr Potts said he had enlisted the help of key residents within the ward who had a special interest in a sector.
“These are not our ward committee members but rather ward champions who will drive special attention to key issues. Our young people are faced with many compromising situations and often in trouble with parents and the law, mostly due to bad influences that corrupts their good character. They need these positive outlets to help keep them focused and guide them along their life journey,” he said.
The programme is open to any youth aged between 12 and 18. Those attending will become part of a mentorship setting where they will have loads of fun whilst meeting new friends and be exposed to a number of opportunities, he said.
The local neighbourhood watch from Kronendal Block Watch has been providing safe passage during the youth night, he said.
“I am encouraged by what has already been offered through 3 Fold Life Support and want to appeal to parents to make an effort to get their young people to join this life changing opportunity,” said Mr Potts.
