The all-woman Operation Basadi, held from 8am to 1pm, was a joint operation between the Mitchell’s Plain Cluster and Law Enforcement.
The aim was to address crimes such as street robberies, traffic violations and curb the transportation of contraband such as drugs and firearms in the area. Those involved also wanted to raise awareness about crimes against women and children such as domestic violence and sexual offences.
During the roadblock, 300 vehicles were checked and 92 vehicles were stopped and searched. Four hundred pamphlets were distributed during the campaign and officers engaged with the community to sensitise them about these issues and keep them safe.
The operation was executed under the command of Mitchell’s Plain deputy cluster commander, Brigadier Mmagauta Letsoalo.
