More than 100 members of Mitchell’s Plain neighbourhood watch and Mitchell’s Plain Community Police Forums (CPF), and Tafelsig East and Hyde Park Sub Forums took to the streets with recently appointed MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight Reagan Allen, on Wednesday May 4.
It was Mr Allen’s first patrol with the neighbourhood watch in Tafelsig, since he was sworn in on Tuesday April 26.
He commended the members for their commitment and diligence in ensuring that their community become a safe space for everyone.
“I’m grateful for the work these volunteers are doing, and for allowing me to accompany them on their patrol.
“These men and women could be busy with various things, yet they choose to combat crime in this manner, so that community members do not have to live in fear,” he said.
Mr Allen aims to conduct patrols across the Western Cape to see what communities are doing to curb crime.
He assured the public that he would be fully support the 441 accredited neighbourhood watches, across the province, to see them “live without fear and in dignity”.
