Mitchell’s Plain are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Rocklands over the weekend.
The police received a complaint of a shooting in Stirling Street on Saturday January 9 at 8.21pm.
On arrival at the scene, police found the body of a man lying on a field next to Stirling Street.
The deceased, a man aged 20 who was not a gang member, had sustained a gunshot wound to his back. He was declared dead on the scene.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this stage.
In another incident on Sunday January 10 at 2pm in Buccaneer Street, Rocklands, police found a 9mm Star firearm, with magazine and eight live 9mm rounds in the possession of a 24-year-old man.
Police arrested the man, who faces charges relating to the illegal possession of firearm and possession of ammunition. He appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday January 11.
