Strandfontein safety groups are working together to take information to residents and to inform, educate and protect each other.
Strandfontein community police forum (CPF), victim support and SAPS, in partnership with Bayview block watch, Strandfontein and San Remo neighbourhood watches, various street committees, Mosaic training, service and healing centre and Area South Law Enforcement have embarked on a roadshow.
Their awareness and education desk aims to reach as many residents in Strandfontein about various crime concerns, introducing various pockets of services and educational material, including how to apply for a protection order; victim support services at the local police station; municipal emergency services; establishing neighbourhood watch, block and street committees; gender-based-violence; police service delivery; and for residents to meet the teams.
They have already visited Bayview, San Remo and Strandfontein Village.
The safety team will be at Sewende Laan informal settlement from 9am until noon on Saturdays October 1; and at Kwikspar Wavecrest on October 15.
Strandfontein CPF chairperson Sandy Schuter Flowers said they were setting up street committees and encouraging residents to be vigilant and report crime in their areas.
“We encourage residents to make contact with the Strandfontein CPF if you wish to establish a street committee in your road,” she said.
