Residents from Beacon Valley and Lentegeur took part in the Jerusalema dance challenge on Thursday September 24 which marked Heritage Day. Young and old heed the call by President Cyril Ramaphosa to show off their dance moves in the challenge which has gone viral worldwide.Â
Charlene Otto, 43 and Jasmine Latief, 42, gathered children and adults in Bicycle Crescent, Beacon Valley, to do the Jerusalema dance to celebrate Heritage Day. Ms Latief taught the children the choreography and Ms Otto and her family fed the children, thanks to a donation from a Parow bakery.

A group of girls gathered together in Rolbal Crescent, Beacon Valley, to do the Jerusalema dance. They all wore black as a symbol of their unity.
Four women in Azalia Crescent, Lentegeur gathered more than 30 children from the area to celebrate Heritage Day – and to tackle the Jerusalema dance challenge. Event organiser Alma Price said the children practised for two weeks. We heeded the Jerusalema call from the President, and it was amazing to see how we could all come together and celebrate Heritage Day, she said. Another organiser, Susan Logenstein, said she had been teaching her own children the dance when the rest of the children in the street decided to join them. Caitlin Davids, who joined the dance, said it had been very exciting preparing for it and doing it in her own street.
