Highlands Primary School pupils received a hearty meal from members of the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) on Thursday July 27. Principal Tanya van Graan said they were grateful and blessed to receive a helping hand from the non-profit organisation, which aimed to help change lives through development and relief.

They also received 150 pairs of school shoes, many of which would best fit high school pupils.

“We will share this with our neighbouring schools,” Ms Van Graan said.

She said just a few weeks ago, when the third school term started, the school was granted no-fee status.

“Many families in our community face challenges and often our children are raised by grandparents. They are dependent on pension and social grants,” she said.
