Trevor Manuel, founder of the Mitchell’s Plain Bursary and Role Model Trust, led 100 players onto Pearl Valley Golf Course, in Paarl, on Friday April 13, to raise funds for needy pupils to study.
The golf day was held in partnership with the Association of Black Savings and Investment Professionals (ABSIP).
Mr Manuel founded the trust in 2010, when he was minister in the Presidency for the National Planning Commission, and working as a Member of Parliament for the ANC’s Mitchell’s Plain constituency office.
The trust helps young people from Mitchell’s Plain to study at the institutions of higher learning. It awards a bursary to one pupil in all 17 high schools in Mitchell’s Plain.
More than 100 pupils have already benefited from the trust.
