Westridge resident Celeste April is planning an event to treat senior women from Mitchell’s Plain and is inviting others to help her by “adopting” a granny.
Ms April plans to pamper 150 grannies a day at the Las Vegas Lounge, from Monday to Friday November 29 to December 3. She has already raised R12 000 to cover some of the costs, and those who would like to contribute are asked to sponsor a woman at R100 each.
In addition to being served a two-course meal and given a gift to take away, the women will be treated to live entertainment, including a performance by Lentegeur musician and community worker Deen Louw.
Ms April said she was arranging the event because she would like to remove grandmothers from destructive environments. “Many of them are abused and treated badly at their homes, and this could make them feel special for one day,” she said.
