The story “Nearly a murder a day” (Plainsman, February 27) refers.
Please be advised that circumstances surrounding a shooting incident that left a 30-year-old man wounded are under investigation.
According to reports a shooting incident occurred on Saturday February 23 at about 4.30pm in De La Rey Crescent, Eastridge.
The victim was shot and transported to a medical facility for treatment.
No one has been arrested so far.
A case of attempted murder has been opened for investigation subsequent to a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday February 24 at 8:50pm in Veronica Crescent, Montrose Park.
According to reports, a woman, 22, and her friend were sitting when unidentified armed suspects approached them and started to shoot and wounded her.
She was transported to hospital for treatment.
A man, 25, was arrested and appeared in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court last week.
The circumstances surrounding the death of a man, 18, are being investigated after his body was discovered in Taaibos Road, Bonteheuwel, on Saturday February 23 at 5.15am with a stab wound. No one has been arrested as yet.
Furthermore be advised that there are ongoing efforts to fight the scourge of gang violence.
Some interventions take the form of overt initiatives such as the dedicated Anti-Gang Unit and Operation Thunder.
At station level, normal targeted policing efforts get executed.
Meanwhile there are also covert measures that deal with the root causes of gang violence and its manifestations.
All of these interventions are guided by crime patterns that get studied over time hence they change from time to time in order to equal the threat at hand.
An important element to the fight, is community involvement and support.
