Mitchell’s Plain SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit are still investigating the case of the 14-year-old Woodlands teen, who is recovering in hospital after she was raped and left for dead on Lukannon Drive in Strandfontein on Sunday October 24.
She was found on the side of the road, half naked with stab wounds and her throat slit (“Prayers for teen raped and left for dead”, Plainsman, October 27).
Shahiem van Nelson, spokesman for the teen’s family, said she is getting stronger.
The teen is due to celebrate her 15th birthday on Saturday November 6.
The community will be hosting a prayer meeting tomorrow, Thursday November 4, at Farriers Court, Woodlands, at 7.30pm, where the public can drop off cards or letters of well wishes for her recovery.
A group of family members is putting together a gift box with balloons and well wishes.
They are spreading the word via WhatsApp text. “We don’t want to buy her luxuries now so if you can buy or make a card, write a letter to wish her well and make her birthday special, we would appreciate it,” reads the WhatsApp message.
Mr Van Nelson said the family thanked everyone for their continuous prayers, which the young survivor dearly needs.
