Christ the Mediator Church, in Portland, hosted the ranking service of the Church Lads and Girls Brigade (CLGB) on Sunday March 13.
This service follows many months of inactivity, during the national Covid-19 lockdown.
The CLGB Company held its first public parade which followed a eucharist during which several officers were ranked.
Newly ranked officers are captain Gail Isaacs, the first woman in the history of our church’s company to receive this rank; second lieutenant Dale Arries; sergeant major Chadwynn Nel; band instructor Charlize Cloete; company sergeant instructors Elaine van Schalkwyk and Caleb Levendahl; sergeant bugler Matthew Johnson, another first in the Portland church’s history; and quartermaster sergeant Kayla van Schalkwyk.
Officiating at the ranking service were Reverend Richard Dunsdon, the diocesan chaplain of the CLGB, and the parish rector Reverend Dean Apples.
