More than 300 senior citizens attended a Christmas party hosted by Joseph and Carol Pillay Seniors Project at Westridge civic centre on Sunday November 27.
They were treated to lunch and received gifts from the organisation.
The project also celebrated their 10th anniversary.
Founder Joseph Pillay thanked all the sponsors and members for their continuous support.
“Our best wishes for the seniors project, and our only hope is that other partners associated with this noble cause will continue to contribute because it is a beautiful event,” he said.
MEC for Social Development Albert Fritz attended the event as part of his ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the neglect and abuse the elderly experience around the festive season.
“The elderly are seen as soft targets, and are targeted by crooks and, sadly, even family members, because they know you can’t physically fight back,” he said.
