Willy Simmers, Mitchell’s Plain Community Advice and Development Project co-ordinator
A giant in the community development field has fallen – Aunty Maude Nelson, the mother of a son, daughter and grandchildren, who can be very proud to have a person like that.
She was a management committee member for quite a few years.
She belonged to a structure, which tried its best to assist the homeless in Mitchell’s Plain.
A very helpful person in Mitchell’s Plain, she always tried to help with social problems.
She was also a representative on a housing structure in Mitchell’s Plain.
Among her last tasks, was taking and fetching her grandchildren to and from school.
She did her best to have the important things like a will and testimonial, deed of sale, and children’s birth certificates done.
I had the experience of Aunty Maude certifying documents in the Town Centre.
Aunty Maude would always ask what is this for and for what is this for – which was a very good balance to ensure everything was above board.
She loved to go to her church service.
We will miss her a lot. She served her community with love.
