The motherly figure who has been working at the Mitchell’s Plain Primary School for 43 years was treated to a surprise birthday party at the school last week.
Asa Croy, also known as Ma Croy, turned 88 on Friday January 24 when she was surprised by her colleagues, staff, teachers and pupils at school.
Ma Croy worked in a factory for many years and later joined the school when it opened in 1976, she said.
She would stand at the gate or collect the children at their homes to come to school.
Her colleague and neighbour, Bridget Jacobs, 71, from Westridge said Ma Croy would fetch her from her home too to help and assist with the children at school.
“She is a fantastic and humorous person, everyone loves her. We wish her well on her birthday and her future,” she said.
