Two men aged 34 and 21 were arrested in connection with the shooting of two men, aged 33 and 22, in Weltevreden Road, Rocklands, at 11.20am on Saturday July 22.
When the police arrived on the scene, they found the 22-year-old lying in the road. He was rushed to hospital where he died.
According to police, the men had been standing in the road, when two men, believed to be gang members, fired two shots at them.
Mitchell’s Plain police spokesperson Constable Nozuko Makwayiba said the 33-year-old was shot in the left side of his chest; while the 22-year-old sustained a gunshot to the right side of his chest and succumbed to his injuries.

A man, aged 42, was arrested for being in possession of a .38 special firearm with six rounds and eight live 9mm rounds of ammunition in Crag Street, Tafelsig, on Tuesday July 18, at 1pm.
The suspect faces a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
On Tuesday July 18, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Weltevreden Road, Rocklands, for being in possession of a silver Arminius .38 special revolver with six live rounds.
Mitchell’s Plain police had been conducting a stop-and-search operation in Weltevreden Road at the time. The man faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition of ammunition.
Constable Makwayiba said firearm owners are urged to keep their weapons in a safe place.
“Please ensure that your firearm is stored in a safe. Ensure that the key is kept in safe storage (and that the) code is kept secret. Keep firearms away from children; teach (them that) a gun is not a toy and report any loss immediately,” she said.
Strandfontein police conducted an operation on Friday July 21 after they received a tip-off that liquor was being illegally sold in Macindane in Strandfontein.
A woman, aged 28, was arrested and several beers and ciders were confiscated. Station commander, Captain David Malong, warned residents that illegal shebeens would not be tolerated as they were often generators of crime, and a catalyst for other crimes such as domestic violence and assaults.
Two men were arrested for being in possession of imitation firearms on Thursday July 20 and Friday July 21.
One of them, a 21-year-old man, was stopped and searched along Spine Road in Strandfontein and police found an imitation firearm and tik on him.
The next day, a 36-year-old man was stopped and searched along Baden Powell Drive in Strandfontein and found to be in possession of an imitation firearm and a dangerous weapon.
According to police, imitation firearms are being used in robberies as they often look like real firearms.
Mitchell’s Plain police have requested that local businesses have their businesses registered on government’s central supplier database which is accessible online at www.csd.gov.za.
When registered on the database, local suppliers will be eligible to be suppliers of goods and services to, among others, the South African Police Services.
