High school pupils from Mitchell’s Plain schools participated in the South African Schools’ Model United Nations, a simulation of the United Nations in session, at Cape Town Civic Centre, on Saturday September 21. Pupils from Portland High School took on the role of diplomats representing UN member state Namibia, and Spine Road High School that of Zimbabwe, to discuss climate change. They debated current global issues, and drafted, voted on and passed resolutions. Pupils had to research a set topic, the position of the country they represent regarding that topic, draft their resolution, and defend the position of the country they represent.
