Low burpee hops

Stand upright, squat down and walk down on the hands until your body is straight into push-up position. Drop down with the right arm, then left to a plank and come back up into the push-up position. Walk back up on the hands to start position and repeat. Pictured are Romeo in plank position and Kaylynn getting up on to her feet.

We have finally made it to week five in our fitness challenge.

With less than two weeks to go before we welcome 2018, people are excitedly making their new year’s resolutions so we asked personal trainer Romeo Brand why so many of these goals we set for ourselves end up failing.

“We always start a new year off with certain life changes we want to achieve for that year,” he said.

“We kick it off strong but somewhere down the line by week three we slowly fall back into our old habits. The feeling with which we committed fades and the drive leaves us as time goes by.

“We lose interest and we slip back into the same old lifestyle and we ask ourselves why can’t I do this or why is this not for me? Yet deep down the desire to change is there.”

Romeo said losing interest in the routine might be one reason why you give up.

He said you must find something that keeps you active but is fun to do, maybe in a group or with friends. Rock climbing is a great way to change direction from High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts.

“Now I can hear you say ‘* could never do that’. How do you know, have you tried it before? The saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

“You can only discover after the 100th attempt if it’s for you or not. Why 100? Because one is an attempt, 50 is a 50/50 chance that you like or dislike it and 100 is the deciding factor,” he said.
