Shamiel Anthony, back at the helm of Hanover Park FC as head coach after four seasons, believes his charges can rekindle the success he enjoyed with the side as the 2009 and 2012 winners of Safa Cape Town’s Coca Cola Amateur Cup competition.
Anthony’s side produced a good performance on Sunday to reach the Coke Cup last round of 16 stage after they beat Rock A Fellas from Mitchell’s Plain in a closely contested round of 32 fixture played in windy conditions at the Turfhall Sports Ground, in Crawford on Sunday.
Shukeer Simons and Ganief Karriem netted the first half strikes while Remano Smith headed home a late goal in the second strike for Rock A Fellas.
Anthony has been recalled, after four seasons with Premier United, to take charge of his beloved Hanover Park side who will also be competing in the Western Cape’s ABC Motsepe Second Division this season. His appointment follows the departure of former head coach Andrew Pequeno.
“Look I have never really been away from the club. I have done some back room work for the club. But it’s good to be back as head coach. But I’m also realistic about the future with regards to our campaign in the Second Division.
“But for now, we are concentrating on the Coke Cup and it’s looking good. Rock A Fellas are a good side and they came at us especially in the midfield but I think they could not compete with our second halve substitutes.
“As for our campaign in the ABC Motsepe, it’s work in progress and as things stand, I’m happy with some of the young players coming through our development ranks. But we will strengthen the side with some players which we have earmarked,” said Anthony.
Meanwhile, in Gugulethu defending champions Diadora thumped Helderberg Rovers 4-1.
