Former Olympic athlete Geraldine Pillay, who specialized in the 100 and 200 meters sprints, gave a motivational speech to aspiring athletes at the Split Seconds Athletic Club at the Westridge Gardens on Wednesday August 15.
Pillay spoke about the her experience at the Olympic Games. She also urged the youngsters to work hard in their studies.
“Today, I highlighted the importance of hard work and staying focused in achieving your goal. I also emphasized the many opportunities which are there when once excel at sport i.e., free tertiary education, sponsorship, travelling and repressing your country. I made it clear to the athletes in attendance that through hard work and dedication they will achieve whatever they have set themselves out to achieve. I spoke about my experience at the Olympic games and how distracted I was by external factors and that they should not allow distractions to deter them from their goal,” said Pillay.
