Ottoman Cricket Club’s opening bowler, Riyaad Peters’ superb performance with the ball was not enough for his side after they lost by 71 runs against Green Point Cricket Club, during a Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA) First Division A one-day encounter, away on Saturday.Â
Ottoman won the toss and chose to field first, limiting Green Point to 160/8 runs.
Peters picked up three wickets, 25 runs and two maidens in eight overs.
He opened the bowling alongside teammate, Asif Sonday, who recorded 1/30 runs after eight overs.
Despite being expensive with the ball on the day, first change bowler, Mujahid Isaacs continued his wicket-taking spell. Last week he took three wickets for 54 runs off 10 overs against Edgemead. This week, he tallied 2/38 runs after eight overs.
Although costly with their fielding on the day, following a countless number of chances dropped, Ottoman will look to improve this department when they travel to hard-hitting Kuils River at the weekend.
On Saturday, Ottoman started off well with the ball, with Peters grabbing two wickets off the slow start of Green Point’s opening batsmen, Zac Elkin (11 runs) and Adam Scher (9 runs).
A stable fifth-wicket partnership between Wesley Baressi (70 runs) and Munier Alexander (30 runs) determined Green Point’s batting innings.
Alexander was runout by Tohir Abrahams and Baressi was caught at mid-on by Muneer Holmes from a delivery of Isaacs.
When it came to batting, Ottoman were missing in action, as only Muzzamil Sheik (13 runs) scored double figures. They were bowled out for 89 runs.
Opener Taariq Behardien walked off the pitch after facing one ball he was caught behind by wicket-keeper, Rainer Karsten off the bowling of Saul Anstey.
Green Point’s bowlers meant business on the day. Anstey received 2/18 runs after seven overs, Joshua Savage took 3/21 runs after six overs, while Adam Lazarus received 3/18 after eight overs.
In other news, Strandfontein Cricket Club will look to bag their second win in the WPCA Premier League one-day when they host UWC on Saturday.
Strandfontein won by three wickets in their opening game against Langa at home a fortnight ago.
