Bothasig Knights appear to be unstoppable in their quest to claim the Cape Town Baseball Major League and prepare to take on Thistle on Saturday in Ottery.
The Knights marched onto the eleven consecutive win of the season to maintain their unbeaten run with a convincing 12-0 thumping of champions Bellville at the AB Sher Grounds on Saturday.
This victory is a major step for veteran coach Raymond Tew’s quest to wrestle the title away from Bellville who have been dominant over the past few seasons.
This tense affair saw pitchers Jarrid Elario and Dean Jacobs sharing the shutout and restricted the visitor’s big-hitters to only a few hits. Elario struck-out four batters while Jacobs fanned six and allowed only one hit.
But it was Nicholas Eagles (5/6) who provided the highlight by clobbering a grand slam in the second frame which saw his side taking a 5-0 lead after scoring a single run in the opening innings. Bellville could simply not recover from Eagles’ four run homer.
Kade Smith and Lloyed Stevens shared the pitching shores for Bellville. Stevens allowed nine (9) hits while Smith gave-up seven (7) hits and four walks.
Saturday’s fixtures: Helderberg Pirates vs Bellville Tygers; Crusaders vs Durbanville Villians; VOB Macaws vs Athlone Athletics.
