Mark RH Kleinschmidt, councillor Ward 60, Lansdowne
I lament loudly, “Cry our beloved country,” on the threshold of the most crucial elections in South Africa, and we learn that a “gang war” holds Mitchell’s Plain hostage.
Surely our political leaders and law enforcement agencies can step in decisively to end this human carnage.
If we can hold protest marches on behalf of our brethren in far-off Palestine, we can have local protest action for our brethren in Mitchell’s Plain. Surely they are deserved of our empathy and support for a peaceful community.
Six people killed in a gang war in a single weekend is deserved of our collective attention .
I believe in my spirit that where so-called community leaders have failed to quell the violence and fatalities, that faith-based organisations such as the churches and mosques with its respective clergy should step in, and make their voices heard to end the ongoing killings. “Speak Out!”
Now that I’ve got that off my chest, let us hold the elections without fear, but favouring peace and improved service delivery.
We must cherish and realise the vision for South Africa held by Madiba and Desmond Tutu.
Nkosi sikelel’ Afrika. God bless South Africa
