More than 100 people attended the Wordworks open session for Mandela Day at Lentegeur library on Saturday July 23. Wordworks supports and improves early language and literacy learning among children from historically disadvantaged communities. Volunteers and staff offered various activities for young children and their parents at the library. The aim of the event was to encourage parents and children to read together, play games and learn about how best to help young children at home with reading and writing. Andrea George from Wordworks said: “We hope we inspired parents to play, read and talk with their young children, building foundations for reading and writing, and building love by learning together,” she said.
