Mitchell’s Plain grandmothers, mothers, daughters and sisters added their voices in song and worship at the annual Women’s World Day of Prayer service at Beacon Ridge Methodist Church, in Eastridge on Friday March 1.
This year’s programme was set by women from Slovenia, who told Christian women across the globe about their country, decided on the theme and gave a message of hope.
The 89th anniversary of this event was entitled “Come – Everything is ready”. The common day of prayer is observed on the first Friday of March every year.
In Slovenia, the third most forested country in Europe, believing women meet around a table and in preparation for the service in churches across the world, member country committees had to lay a
table.
Reverend Winifred Baumann, from the local church, encouraged women to take care of themselves and welcome even their “persecutors” to the table at home.
“Look at yourself with new eyes. Believe in yourself. Pray for those who persecute you,” she said.
