The Portland Community Safety and Development Foundation showed its appreciation for 50 female community activists from Portland at its annual Women’s Day celebration on Friday August 9.
The theme of the event, which was organised by the men in the foundation, was “Be intentionally inspirational”.
Cape Flats activist Roegshanda Pascoe joined the event online and encouraged the community activists to continue making a difference.
Ashwin Johnson, chairperson of the Portland Community Safety and Development Foundation, serenaded the women with Kenny Rogers’s Lady. Mr Johnson said the foundation held the event to demonstrate the important role women play in society.
“Women play an important role in the development of our community. They get up early each day and stay up late at night to see to the needs of their families and the community. We want to thank the community activists from Portland, as they are the ones who are shaping and nurturing our community to become better,” he said.
